Eddie with his chorus of dancers

One of the acts with me on the tour of New Zealand with one of Harry Wren’s shows, "Ice Follies",  was Wim DeJong.   We’d been together in Hot Ice so had been friends a long time.

It was some time later when practicing at Bondi Junction ice rink, that Wim mentioned he knew of a company that had gone bankrupt and were selling a small portable ice tank, complete and on a truck.   I looked at it and made an offer to the liquidator.   Wim had no money but I took him in as a partner and formed a P/L company “Ice Varieties”.

We got three ice skaters, girls, and with our wives skating, hired a singer, also a comic compere and put together a 2hr show.

I approached 6 agents in Sydney and they all said too big and too dear.   There was some 8mm film I’d had taken of shows I’d been in when I was working and with that spliced together and a small screen projector, I contacted 5 of the major clubs in Sydney showed it to their committees.   They all bought the show on the spot.   Incidentally the 5 clubs rebooked the show for 3 months later and wouldn’t allow any changes

The show was refined and enlarged over the following 7yrs playing most major towns in NSW even taking it to Noumea and Tahiti.   In 1974 the show opened Christchurch for the Commonwealth Games.   I took 33 people out of Australia for that, plus an Ice engineer/truck driver to help me, as I was performing 4 different spots in the show.

I closed the show after that.   .
